For many it doesn't even go that far, they perform cost benefit analysis and see they stand to gain by being unethical and they decide to do so. On top of that human conscious is built on top of neurons transmitting electric impulses i.e. electromagnetism. Even as an emergent phenomena, it would exhibit some aspects of that structure, such as the polarity of charges.
